Lister wakes from stasis  with amnesia. Rimmer is brought back on-line. They wander into a giant spaceship graveyard, and stop to find out what caused all the ships to be there. The asteroid belt they are in is teaming with Genetically Engineered Life Forms called Psirens. A Psiren gets aboard Starbug and the crew try to kill it.
